Consumers of Nescafé Dolce Gusto compatible capsules can now find this format in the Meseta brand, in four blends: Classico, Intenso, Supremo 100% Arabica and Decaffeinato.
The Decaffeinato blend is created especially for those who love coffee but can’t or don’t want to have caffeine. These Dolce Gusto capsules contain just 0.1% caffeine, along with the aroma of traditional Italian espresso, due to its superb combination of Arabica and Robusta beans.
The caffeine can be removed from coffee in different ways: using so-called “organic solvents,” like dichloromethane or ethyl acetate, or by using supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2). Meseta capsules are made using the second method: this is because CO2, unlike organic solvents, don’t alter the coffee’s aromatic characteristics and make it possible to obtain a higher quality product.
The decaffeination process is always the same, regardless of the solvent used. The green coffee is first treated with water and steam to soak the beans and help extract the caffeine, which is then extracted using the CO2. The solvent is removed from the coffee, which is finally dried, roasted and packaged.
Meseta Decaffeinato Nescafé* Dolce Gusto* capsules are available in boxes of 16. Each pack contains 6 boxes, for a total of 96 individual, self-protected capsules.
